From Idea to Concept to Reality
(for an Engineer turned Entrepreneur)
When a young Steven Owens left his summer job at a local car dealership after four days, he had changed the oil in over 84 vehicles and had the greasy clothes, burns, and frustration to prove it. He also left thinking there must be a faster, more efficient, and less messy way to accomplish this task. This was the inspiration for the Last Drop Wrench…
He left for college and graduated from Clemson University focusing on Machine Design and Dynamics of Performance Vehicles. With this degree Steven went to work for a leading manufacturer of bearings. There, his on the job learning was also about service, maintenance, production and machining. He watched equipment, implements, and tools being changed and improved every day. Honing his understanding of tooling and manufacturing, the idea of the Last Drop Wrench still lingered in the back of his mind.
Owens still works in manufacturing technology, but has added an MBAe in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Clemson University to his education and experience. And now his afterwork energies are focused on his startup company, Creative Fabrications and Coatings, a small but very successful powder coating and fabrication business. Entrepreneurial exposure was the catalyst to put his Last Drop Wrench on the table and he knows this new tool can streamline the vehicle oil changing process to make it easier, cleaner, and faster. It is designed for those who choose to ‘Do-It-Yourself’ and for the automotive service departments who want efficiency, faster production, and less mess.
The Last Drop Wrench is a specialty tool; an oil wrench that punctures the oil filter in place, drains the oil, and can remove the old filter in one connection and two twists. This tool has put Steven Owens name on the list of successes in competitive fields at Clemson University and now at SEMA Launchpad 2018. As a top 10 finalist in the 2018 SEMA Launchpad Entrepreneurial Competition, The Last Drop Wrench is turning heads and is sure to be a game changer in the specialty tools marketplace.
